A BBC colleague called Walter once an ‘industry legend’. For TERRA MATER Factual Studios he is the heart and the head - incomparably experienced, highly passioned and round-the-clock on duty. For Walter a long dreamed adventure became true when after 30 years at Austria’s pubcaster ORF, he launched TERRA MATER Factual Studios as a subsidiary company of Red Bull and since January 1, 2011 TERRA MATER Factual Studios is the new home of the former ORF UNIVERSUM team. As leader of the pack Walter heads the strategic development of the production house and together with his cherry-picked team he stears the company in all creative, technological, financial and commercial matters. While still concentrating on the TV core genres of natural history, science and history Walter’s mission for TERRA MATER Factual Studios was to broaden the output and also move into format development and onto the big screen. For TERRA MATER Factual Studios cinema releases, Walter’s vision is to find new compelling ways of storytelling. The borders between fiction and ‘faction’ become seamless and sometimes dissolve in TERRA MATER Factual Studios cinematic projects like HARODIM, BROTHERS OF THE WIND, MIND GAMERS and Walter’s latest coup, THE IVORY GAME, that hit a place on the shortlist of the Academy Awards Oscar.
